THE STORY OF THE SCARBOROUGH GHOST
Back in 2019 I moved back to my hometown of Scarborough on the East Coast of England in North Yorkshire and opened up a shop called The Ivy Cavern in the vaulted chambers under the towns historic market hall.
Built in 1852 the market hall sits on the site of a much older street market that dates back to the medieval times and is home to spooky stories of grey, white and black friars haunting the area (the remains of one of the friar monks from the nearby Friarage was said to be found on-site whilst the market was being built) It wasn't long after opening my shop that I started to experiance afew spooky going's on myself, including a possible glimpse of the old market caretaker called Charlie - who is meant to haunt the vaults - one afternoon during lockdown when the market was closed to the public.
This gave me the idea that Scarborough should have it's very own ghost to celebrate the rich history of the market and the Old Town beyond. So one day back in 2020 the very first Scarborough ghost was created originally known as a 'Vaults Ghost' I named him Walter Vaultergeist. Soon I made more ghosts and started to sell them in my shop, strangely the first day I displayed the ghosts all the water mysteriously 'jumped' out of the water feature in my shop (no crack could be detected!) who knows if it was ghostly going's on or faulty electrics!
In 2023 I moved out of the vaulted chambers of the Market Vaults and up to the main market hall on the mezzanine floor, to celebrate I made a new updated ghost called The Scarborough Ghost complete with ghost map.
Wishing you many happy hauntings!
