Journey to Lyonesse
The sea-bed between Hella Point & Lands end in Cornwall is called Lyonesse & according to legend it once stretched to the Isles of Scilly & contained 140 parish churches, When a flood overwhelmed the land only one member of the Trevelyan family & a White Horse escaped. Several people claim to have seen the battlements, towers & spires of Lyonesse, well out to sea. Long forgotten Sunken lands always conjure up ideas I want to paint & reading the amazing 'Lyonesse' series of books by Jack Vance also inspired this painting
